PREP: 5 min | SERVINGS: 1
Hand-shaken lemonade using the whole lemon for maximum flavor.
1 whole lemon, cut into 8 pieces
2-3 tablespoons sugar
¾ cup ice
¾ cup water
Wash the lemon thoroughly with cool water and a stiff brush. Dry with a towel.
Roll the lemon on the counter using firm pressure to release the juices. Cut in half, then each half into quarters (8 pieces total).
Add the lemon pieces and sugar to a mason jar. Muddle together until the lemons break down and release their juice.
Fill with ice, then top with water.
Screw lid on tightly and shake vigorously. Serve immediately.
NOTES:
Using the whole lemon (peel and all) captures more lemon flavor than juice alone.
Adjust sugar to taste—start with 2 tablespoons and add more if needed.
If too sweet, add more water or lemon juice.
